PLATEAU STATE POLITICS; THE LEADERS VERSUS THE FOLLOWERS; GREED OR CRISES?
The Plateau man just as any other Nigerian is highly politically conscious. This is evident in his contribution towards making sure that democracy has come to stay in the state and nation as a whole.
It’s not untrue that from 1999 – date, Plateau state and Nigeria entirely has had its fair share of challenging experiences- ranging from communal crises, ethno-religious conflicts and socio-economic challenges.
These are not limited to Plateau state or Nigeria only. However, the question remains that Plateau state being the home of peace and tourism needed to have been on a level greater than where we are now.
Without mincing words, Plateau state has produced very many a patriot whose contribution has immensely moved Nigeria forward. The home of men of letters, professors of high reputation, military generals, etc. yet our impact is either not honestly appreciated or our right sold out by our big-shots for peanuts- our future traded for wealth, power and position by desperate individuals and political gladiators.
Fellow citizens of Plateau state, the facts, we should not shy away from the dividends of democracy should be enjoyed by everyone irrespective of socio-cultural, religious or political affiliation. Of a truth, Plateau state needs to rise above waters.
But what exactly is the problem?
Is it bad leadership, Poor economy or self-centeredness? The first two are certainly ruled out but the last (self-centeredness) is the cankerworms that has eaten so deep into that which has held us together as one people over the years.
Leaders with charisma without character, who deceived the people to make their own ends, not even mindful of what tomorrow holds. Fellow citizens of Plateau state, the hydra-headed problem on the Plateau is not resources; it’s just sentiments drawn on the line of religion, tribe, geo-political zones, political affiliation, etc. these have done more harm to us as a people than good. Yet, with the rights and privileges that that come with democracy and with our current state if enlightenment on the intricacies involve in politics, we can no longer afford to continually leave our destiny to fate as generations coming up will one day hold us responsible for any mishaps.
Comrades, a leadership born out of truth, honestly and accountability is what we need.
The years past need not be belaboured upon as we have yet a chance to put things straight. It’s in line of this earnest desire and search for a better Plateau courtesy better leadership that we honestly appreciate the vision of RT. HON. DR. JOHN CLARK DABWAN to propel the course of peace, unity and good governance in Plateau state in 2015.
