GENERAL
ELECTIONS 2015!
PRIMARIES: DELEGATES, BEWARE OF
WOLVES IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING!!!
It’s evident
that since the foundation laying of the democratic structures in Nigeria on May
29th 1999, a lot has changed in the political enlightenment and
participation. Things which were hitherto neglected are now given serious
attention.
Positions which
were more like appointments are now kindly contested. This is evident where
about 10 – 15 candidates contested for a single seat in the state house of
assembly. To be specific, today, about 20 candidates or more under different
platforms are contesting for the Governor’s seat in Plateau State; a number
which has never been recorded since 1999. The implication of this no doubt is
that people are now more enlightened and conscious of the democratic systems.
Whatever it is
however, let’s not create a chance for any crack which could be dangerous to
our growth and development. We should not allow the processes which are
expected to be pure and just in all ramifications to be adulterated and bastardized
by stooges and political gladiators with little or no knowledge of the ideals
of democracy.
Especially in
the dispensation in view, where politicians implore all means possible to
acquire power; using money to buy votes and sometimes violent means. Now that
the primary elections have commenced in earnest, delegates should beware of
wolves in sheep’s clothing.
These wolves are
politicians whose stock-in trade is to buy votes with money instead of healthy
canvassing. While people have innocently retired to bed, like Othelo’s Ghost, they
walk the night planting seeds of discord amongst men to obtain votes against
principles of fair play and positive reason.
They are wolves in sheep’s clothing, Delegates;
beware of them during the primaries. As delegates, you should realize that it’s the
people’s mandate you have, consequently, where you cast
your votes at the primaries should be for the people’s interest and not your
own personal interest as you would someday be held accountable for the votes
you cast irrationally.
(DON’T
SELL YOUR VOTES).
You should shun
any unwholesome sentiments and deliver the peoples mandate – the reason why you
are being held in trust. As a delegate
though, too many enticing offers would be made to you either to make or mar your
objective sense of reasoning but do not fall prey to such.
Write your name
in gold on the sands of time as having objectively contributed in installing
credible candidates in the government for peace, unity, and good governance to
prevail in 2015.
Finally, let’s
call a spade a spade, whoever seeks to lure or buy your votes at the primaries
at the expense of credibility and the people’s interest is nothing but one of the wolves in sheep’s clothing - beware of them!!
In unity we
shall strive for victorious and peaceful elections in 2015. Delegates; your
votes are not for sale. Come 2015, beware of
wolves in sheep’s clothing!
